Returning for its 16th annual event, the Gold Coast Film Festival is a must for film buffs and movie fanatics. This popular film festival brings a diverse variety of Australian and international films, filmmakers, and film events each year to the Gold Coast; and it’s the city’s flagship event for everything to do with film. The Gold Coast Film Festival will celebrate a proud heritage of filmmaking since the 1980s, where filmmaking was introduced on the Gold Coast. Since then, major international films have chosen the Gold Coast’s beautiful backdrop to film on including Unbroken, Pirates of the Caribbean, Thor: Ragnarok, Aquaman, and more!
As part of Gold Coast Film Festival don’t miss special outdoor showings taking place in Giltrap Park, Kirra. Two unmissable movie showings will be celebrating dance in film with Strictly Ballroom on April 20 and Happy Feet on April 21 – seating from 5pm and movie start at 6.30pm. Food and refreshments will be available onsite; just bring friends, family, and a chair or blanket!
On April 20 attend the Women in Film Lunch, a tempting 3-hour buffet and drink package at the QT Gold Coast in Surfers Paradise. It’s a great afternoon of irresistible food, insightful talks, and networking to celebrate women in film and television.
Film fanatics won’t want to miss the Gold Coast Movie Locations Tour, showcasing four key Gold Coast movie locations by bus; made famous by both international blockbusters and Australian classics. These film locations have been featured in over 20 films including Thor: Ragnarok, Kong: Skull Island, San Andreas, Pirates of the Caribbean, and more. Enjoy behind-the-scenes stories and exclusive footage! The Gold Coast Movie Locations Tour will take place on two weekends: April 21-22 and April 28-29.
On April 22 head to Surfers Paradise Beach for Sipfest, a special outdoor showing of the best short films across Australia. It’s also free to attend!
Know a thing or two about movies? On April 24 stop by Music and Movie Trivia at the QT Ballroom, where teams of between two and six can combine their movie knowledge and snatch the chance to win big prizes!
The 15th annual Gold Coast Film Festival took place across 11 days and featured over 90 film-related events in 13 different locations on the Gold Coast, and the 16th annual Gold Coast Film Festival is expected to be even bigger and better.
